Tips to Work With Graphic Designer For Good Collaboration!

Updated: May 28, 2020

Good design makes a strong first impression; Good design helps your business stand out; Good design makes you money!

Working with graphic designers for the first time can be intimidating. You’re essentially handing over your entire brand identity and reputation to a complete stranger, but risky as it sounds, it’s the smartest thing you can do from a business perspective. Designers are generally pretty creative folks, and they like to help their clients get the most out of every project. Hiring a designer is likely to mean that you'll end up with a better-finished product than you could have put together, even if you're skilled at making things look good.

Good communication with the designer will have your final product deliver beyond your wildest expectations, an excellent result requires great communication from both parties.

Here are the best tips for working with a graphic designer. Pay attention to these tips, you will receive the most satisfied works!

1. We cant read the mind. Show the designer, don't tell.

Your graphic designer can’t read minds - if they could, they’d be doing a lot more than just your re-brand. To ensure your designer understands your client’s vision, make sure to include these key points in your design brief.

Designers can put all their creative energies into creating an interesting, effective design, but only you know what you want, so it’s ultimately up to you to communicate that. Rather than using words, show your graphic designer what you want with visual examples. Collect samples of your desired style from google or Pinterest, visuals also give your designer a chance to catch all of the artistic nuances and techniques that you like so they can incorporate them into your project.

Gather Your Thoughts & Make A List of Your Requirement.

2. Allow Enough Time for Graphic Creations.

Graphic design isn’t an instant process that is done with a few clicks of a mouse. Every project will have its own process and time requirements. Realistically, some designs can be whipped out in a day, while others will take much, much longer. It completely depends on the project creation process including revisions, to complete a design project and many designers could even charge a rush fee if you decide you need something last minute or sooner than their typical timelines. If you’ve found a designer you’d like to hire, let him or her know about your time constraints and ask for a realistic estimate on how long the design will take.

3. Expect Few Round of Revisions Before Getting the Satisfied Outcome.

One to three rounds of revisions are common for graphic design projects. Even the best designers don’t always get it right the first time. Most projects involve at least one round of feedback, but if you don’t articulate your criticism well, you’re looking at two, three, four or more rounds before you’re happy with the results. As rounds of revisions progress, each round should get less complicated.

4. Trust Your Designer.

Trusting your designer – It takes a lot of trusts to hand over something as crucial as your brand identity to anyone. Trust can make all the difference to your design experience. Most people work better when given a brief on their task and then left to their own devices to do what they do best. A designer is no different. A designer’s best work will come from a trusting relationship. Designing is what they do day in day out and, they will have their finger on the pulse when it comes to the latest trends and what works within the current market. Design, of course, is our passion; we live and breathe it daily. We want to see your brand thrive as much as you do.

If you are unsure or confused about any part of the design process, remember you can always ask questions. When it comes to helping the design process, communication is key. We want your input and honest feedback on concepts so that we can deliver a final design to you that you are 100% happy with.
